The models for community philanthropy and community development that developed and expanded during the second half of the 20th century are candidates for overhaul as the conditions that communities face change. With support from the Ford and Kellogg Foundations, and in collaboration with a number of community foundations, INC has been exploring new models for community development philanthropy.
We are also exploring how community philanthropy can catalyze the development of a region's infrastructure of public, private, and philanthropic "innovation capital" resources. See the Regional Development Trust project in the Economic Development sector.
Our two primary Community Development Philanthropy projects are:
INC is creating a new charitable organization ? Charitable Asset Stewards ? whose purpose is to allow donors to put working commercial assets in the service of a charitable purpose without liquidating them.
Working with community foundations and community development corporations, as well as other community-based organizations, we are developing ways to blend philanthropy and development to meet community needs.
