The US market for social innovation services has expanded significantly in recent years. Civic business leadership is emerging in many metropolitan regions, with strong connections to private markets and private capital.1 At the same time, civic leaders and government officials in municipalities, state capitals, and Washington are recognizing that community systems are failing to perform well enough to keep competitive in a global economy and healthy in the face of change. In short, more and more private and public capital is seeking practical ideas for improving communities.
